The Crof ton Speech Team placed fourth at their conference meet. Facing the competitive teams in their conference, the Crofton Speech Team received fourth place at the Mid-State Conference Speech Contest at Boone Central High School on Saturday, February 25.

For the second week in a row, the OID team consisting of seniors Megan Tramp and Rori Schmidt, junior Kaylee Mauch, and sophomores Grant Schieffer and Jack Schieffer earned first place.

Crofton received both first and second place in entertainment speaking. Jack Schieffer was crowned champion, and junior Elizabeth Wortmann was runner-up.
Crofton also received both second and third place in humorous prose. Mauch took home runner-up, and Grant Schieffer placed third.

This was Grant Schieffer’s first time placing in humorous. He said, “I felt really accomplished with myself. It felt like all my hard work finally paid off. It was very exciting because this was my first time making it to varsity finals for humorous.”

Schmidt also took home bronze with her POI piece. The duo of Tramp and Wortmann also placed third in duet speaking.

The Warriors placed fourth as a team with 124 points scored overall.

The team will perform next at their open house at Crofton High School on Tuesday, March 7 at 6 P.M. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The team will then compete at the district meet at Plainview High School on Wednesday, March 8, beginning at 9 A.M.
