Hemp Workshop Held in Crofton

On the evening of April 4th, 2023, members of the South Dakota Industrial Hemp Association hosted a Hemp Fiber Forum at Wiebelhaus Recreation in downtown Crofton.

“We were proud to announce the first purchase order contracts for Hemp farmers in the Missouri Valley, with Dakota Hemp just receiving their Hemp Train and Complete Hemp Processing now operational with their Formation Ag Fiber decorticator,” said Colin Fury with Nebraska based HCSCOTUS.

“We are currently offering $210-240/TON for Industrial Hemp Fiber bales, and offering $300 a ton for Nebraska, Iowa & South Dakota farmers who bale over 300 acres of Hemp,” said Ken Meyer, President of the South Dakota Industrial Hemp Association and Vice-President of Winfred, South Dakota based Complete Hemp Processing.”

“Depending on genetics farmers can conservatively expect to have yields of 3.5-5.5 tons per acre,” added Colin Fury.

Brent Broberg with Antelope County Nebraska based Broberg Organics educated farmers on the benefits of organic Nightcrawler Castings. “Farmers are caring more and more about microbials and are seeing real returns and increased root growth by utilizing our organic Nightcrawler castings in production,” said Broberg. “Microbials and trace elements are a vital part of any Hemp farm or organic operation,” added Rex Townsend with Iowa based Townsend Ag Supply, a Conklin AgroVantage dealership.

“Zinc, Boron, Magnesium and other nutrients when properly added are a quality value adder for any Hemp farm, and we are excited to see what Rex & Conklin AgroVantage are offering Hemp farmers in regard to liquid trace elements,” added Colin Fury.

Keith Kube of Crofton spoke of the benefits of Hemp plastic; while Alex Seyfert of Wilber, Nebraska spoke of the growing HempCrete concrete construction industry. Attendees inspected sample Hemp concrete walls; biodegradable Hemp plastic silver wear utensils, jewelry, chess boards and Hemp fiber ropes, Hemp clothing, dog leashes and more.
