Crofton Seniors Fall In Nine-Inning Final Game

The Crofton Senior Legion team made a strong run at the C-1 Seniors Area Tournament that ended for the local boys on July 24 with their second loss in the double-elimination tournament.

The Crofton team was seeded third in the tournament, and took wins over #4 Stanton and #5 Ponca before facing off against #1 seeded Hartington for their first loss on July 23, and their second loss in the “semifinals” against the sixth-seed Wisner-Pilger-Dodge-Howells, who had battled back through the loser’s bracket.

In the team’s first game against Stanton, the Crofton Seniors put away the opposition in short order, 10-0 at the final pitch to move forward in the bracket.

The team’s next game was against Ponca, and the Crofton boys had more of the same for their next opponent, running 11-2, through the scoreboard at the close of the last inning.
Game three for the Legion boys, however, Hartington gave the Crofton Seniors a run for their money, outscoring the local boys 11-3 and pushing Crofton into the lower bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Against sixth-seeded Wiser-Pilger-Dodge-Howells on Monday, July 24, the Crofton Seniors went into nine innings, but couldn’t overcome a 9-7 deficit before the final pitch was thrown.
