Downtown Beautification has been under way since the last ECAP meeting in March.
Downtown beautification was considered a major need for the town, especially with the upcoming biking events going through town in the summer.
From January to March, ECAP held meetings in Crofton, to help improve the town. One way was to beautify the town with flower pots. Main Street Treasures has been wanting to do this project for years. Working closely with Lanna Tramp, the project came into fruition.
Downtown Beautification committee member Erin Dennis talked about where the flower pots came from. “The flower pots were purchased from a company that has planters and baskets for municipalities. A contact at the City of Yankton provided their information. Lanna and Joel Tramp/Sweet Treat Bouquets and More provided the flowers and put everything together. They've arranged the flowers and installed them on the city light poles.”
In recent years, Main Street Treasures has gifted the CHS graduating class with $1,000 for a community project. The class of 2026 wanted to donate it toward downtown flower pots, so a few are from the senior class and the rest from Main Street Treasures. There are a total of 14 flower pots being hung up. The project should be completed within the next couple of weeks.
Dennis comments on what this project means to the community, “Beautification projects go a long way in creating and maintaining pride in a community. When people feel pride in their community, they share that pride with others. Beautification increases a community's self-esteem. Attractive business districts make patrons and visitors feel welcome.”
