M*A*S*H first at Conference, headed to Districts, Dec. 2

The Crofton One Act troupe took championship honors at the Mid-States Conference event at the Johnny Carson Theater in Norfolk on Nov. 15, and, following a successful public performance, the team is ready for the District competition this Friday, Dec. 2.

Crofton is in the C1-4 district for the Play Performance competition, and will compete against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Winnebago, Lutheran High Northeast, Homer, Ponca, Norfolk Catholic, Wakefield and West Holt for the chance to go to the state competition.
The 2022 performances for all schools will be held the following week, Dec. 7 - Dec. 9 with Class C performing on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 3:45 p.m. for C1-4 at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk.

At the Conference event, a number of actors won individual awards for “Oustanding Performance”: Garret Buschkamp, Rori Schmidt, Jeffrey Birger, Samantha Strunk, Ellie Tramp and Grant Schieffer.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, the actors held a dinner theater fundraiser, serving 240 meals for more than 300 audience members, and those donations gathered more than $3,000 for the Crofton school drama program.
Emcees for the evening were Garret Buschkamp, Rebecca Leader, Megan Tramp and Jeffrey Birger.

Play Production is a Nebraska School Activities Association event in which a team school prepares a 30-minute play.

Crofton's season kicked off with Theatre Camp in August. It was at this camp that Crofton’s season show, M*A*S*H was announced. Auditions for parts were in August. “We’ve been rehearsing since the first week in September,” said director Holly Wortmann.

“Set of our play is in a war-time MASH unit, or Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, the play follows the lives of the doctors and nurses, some of whom had been drafted and some of whom had volunteered, as they argued, clowned around, and—most of all—worked themselves past the point of exhaustion trying to save and comfort the wounded and dying,” said Wortmann.

The fundraising event consisted of prizes for Best Dressed Military, M*A*S*H trivia throughout the evening, and door prizes.
