The Crofton Warrior Speech team with their season motto, ‘Rollin’ in the Fifties’, competed at Boone Central High School on Saturday, January 21.

With another week under their belts, but not many practices due to snow, they couldn’t wait to compete in three rounds. Still in their early developing stages with a young team, they were glad to receive fourth overall.

For varsity, in entertainment speaking, sophomore Jack Schieffer, wowed the judges and earned first place. Elizabeth Wortmann, followed not far behind with an amazing third place.

In duet acting, senior Megan Tramp and junior Elizabeth Wortmann competed hard, earning them third place. Jack Schieffer took home the third place medal for humorous prose. Junior, Carter Guenther, battled it out in the extemp rounds winning him a fourth place varsity medal, with freshman Katie Neuharth placing third in novice extemp.

Sophia Wortmann caroused the novice informative speaking rounds, landing her in first place. Finally, senior Rori Schmidt, placed sixth in the new event to Class C, called Program of Oral Interpretation (POI).

Senior Rori Schmidt stated, “It was only our second meet, but I already saw improvement, and I can’t wait to see what happens over the rest of the season.”
