The Crofton Warrior track teams traveled to Omaha’s Burke Stadium for the 2025 Nebraska State Activities Associations track invitational with seven competitors giving their best at the end of the school year.
The Warriors sent five field events and two in long distance running – and returned home with the young team gaining a lot of experience and attempts on the “big stage,” and more years for competition.
The Crofton Bluejays opened their 2025 season against two of the top three teams in the South Central League, taking the loss against the second-place Yankton Lakers on Sunday, May 18 in their home opener, and then losing to third-place Lesterville at home that Thursday, May 22. But the Jays took a non-conference match against the Akron Rebels, 6-2, this past Sunday, May 25, to go 1-2 on the season.
The Crofton Memorial Day ceremonies were held on Monday, May 26 in the City Auditorium. Pastor Justin Bossman provided in the invocation and benediction, there was a memorial slide show presented and the Legion members provided the 21 gun salute. Pete Bramschreiber,
bugler, played “Taps” to close the service. The Legion Auxiliary also presented flowers to family members of those who had passed within the previous year.

A benefit has been planned for Josie Trebil, 15-year-old daughter of Tera Tramp and Kyle Trebil of Crofton.
She was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, and is in need of a bone marrow transplant. According to a family member, a possible match has been found, but a long road remains.
On Saturday, May 31 at the St. Boniface Hall in Menominee, a 9 a.m. partner Euchre tournament will begin, and the doors will open at 4 p.m. for a live and silent auction, food and music.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the family’s medical expenses and travel.
The Knox County Fair Board gives a certificate for one free wristband, for the rides at the Knox County Fair this coming August, to each student that met the Fair Board’s Accelerated Reader (AR) reading goals. Crofton 8U Wuebben baseball played a double header against Plainview. The team had a fun time and it was a good learning experience for them before they kick off their league schedule.
The Crofton Warrior and Lady Warrior track teams traveled to Battle Creek last week for the C-4 District meet on Thursday, May 15.
The teams ended up qualifying in seven events and seven competitors headed to Burke Stadium this weekend, May 23-24 in Omaha for the Nebraska School Activities Association’s State Tournament.
The Crofton Warrior boys’ golf team drew its regular season to a conclusion this past week, with the C-3 District golf tournament on May 19 at Fair Play Golf Course in Norfolk – qualifying one golfer for the State tournament.
Senior Grant Schieffer carded an 80 over the two rounds, to qualify at 9th place overall.
William Brockhaus of Norfolk Catholic took first with a 72. Schieffer was one stroke from seventh, two from 6th, and 10th was Brody Bessmer of Battle Creek, also scoring an 80.
Class C competed at the Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island on Wednesday, May 22. Schieffer picked up a 10 a.m. tee time in his group with Beau Paro of St. Paul, Brody Bessmer of Battle Creek and Jacob Klooz of E-M-F.
It took several months of research and a trip from her hometown in Northern Ireland to a town in northeast Nebraska for Helen (Corr) Kelly to experience joy and closure by visiting the recently marked gravesite of her great uncle Thomas “Tommy” Corr.
Yet again the CHS seniors came through Cottonwood Villa for a property wide cleanup. The day was hot, but the positive energy of the students was “smokin,” they were joined by the Villa's board members along with some of their spouses, and teacher/Mayor Bob Evans. The Villa's staff are truly thankful for all of the hard work from the community.

The Crofton High School Class of 2025 celebrated their commencement exercises at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 10 at Crofton High School. Speeches were given by class valedictorian Rylie Arens and salutatorian Grant Schieffer. The ceremony featured musical performances by the Crofton High School Chorus and the Crofton High School Band.
A multitude of students received awards for academic and athletic excellence last Wednesday, May 7 at the 2025 Crofton Academic Celebration.

The Crofton boys golf team went to the Wayne High Mac Invite where Sr. Grant Schieffer placed 3rd with a total of 77 points.
Logan Brabec placed 2nd with 73 carded strokes, Turner Heiss placed 5th with a 78, and James Eby placed 16th with 84.
O’Neill was the team that placed first and scored 323 team score. Next was Columbus Lakeview with a 328, Tekamah-Herman with 332, West Holt at fourth with 346 and Boone Central rounded out the top five with 351.
Next Monday, May 19, the Warrior Boys golf team will travel to the District Golf in at Fair Play Golf Course in Norfolk. Other teams will be Battle Creek, Cedar Catholic, Elkhorn Valley, Homer, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Norfolk Catholic, Pender, Plainview, Ponca, Summerland, Tri County Northeast, Wakefield, West Holt and Winnebago.

The Crofton track and field teams powered through the rain at the Tom Martin Memorial Meet hosted by Wausa in Pierce, capturing a total of 13 medals and earning 6th place overall for the girls team and 10th place for the boys.
The standout performance of the meet came from sophomore Seanna Pinkelman, who took 1st place in the shot put with a massive throw of 35 feet, 9 inches, setting a new personal record by an impressive four feet.

The Crofton 8U Wuebben Baseball team had a team outing on Monday, April 28th. They had the opportunity to watch an exhibition game between the Sioux Falls Canaries and the Sioux City Explorers at the Yankton Riverside Field. The tickets and meal were donated by Stockmens Motosports and Wuebben Trucking LLC. They enjoyed playing at the park, eating pizza, and then watching the game! Even though the game got rained out, they were still able to see 2 homeruns and built great team camaraderie!
The Crofton Elementary Kindergarten class had a special visitor last week from Crofton Alumni, and 2024 Miss Burwell Rodeo, Jessica Lange. A social media post indicated that Lange shared her experience about the rodeo, her duties as rodeo queen, and read the class a story.
The Crofton Warrior music department traveled to Laurel last Friday, competing against northeast Nebraska’s best musicians, and bringing home a number of ranked performances, as well as an NSAA award.
Awards are given based of a numerical scale with a 1 or 2 being top marks for the performances.
To start things off, the Mixed Chorus and Warrior Band performances both earned straight “1’s” from the three separate judges, earning them superior ratings and a plaque.
The performances were under the direction of Katie Kleinschmit, vocal instructor; and Ashley Leader, instrumental instructor.
Tickets on sale May 1 for Midwest Dueling Pianos at the Lake, set for June 14 at Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area, Nebraska Game & Parks near Crofton.
Dueling Pianos, slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Weigand Marina, is a mix of music and comedy. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with Traveling Tiger Tavern and Crofton Haymarket serving food, with CJ’s at the Lake providing a cash bar.
The event is sponsored by the Crofton Community Club, Downtown Auto, Gavin's Point Recreation, M & W Portables, Main Street Treasures, Signature Sewer and Whitetail Properties.

The 2025 Crofton High School graduation commencement ceremony will be held next Saturday, May 10 at 2 p.m. at the high school.
The class chose “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift as the class song, the pink carnation as the flower, and the class motto as “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
The Class of 2025 will have 24 students eligible for graduation.
The City of Crofton was busy this week, replacing street corners downtown to make them more handicap accessible, breaking out the sidewalk and curb, and installing new graded sidewalk entrances. Corners on the West side of Kansas and 2nd Streets at the Kayton lot, and the north and south side of Kansas on the east side of 2nd, and on Main Street on the east side of 2nd Street have begun and are already well progressed to being done.
